10 Worst Christmas Gifts Ever

Could receiving a gift be bad. Believe me, it very well could be. Especially if it is something that either has absolutely no use to you or has been recycled. Here’s our list of the worst Christmas Gifts that you should avoid giving. And here’s hoping you do not receive one:

1. Health and fitness books

Christmas is the time to drink and eat up, and gifting health and fitness books to people will only make them realize how much weight they have put on in December alone. While many will make a New Year’s resolution to get fitter and hit the gym, they really don’t want to be reminded of that until they are already in the new year.

2. Souvenirs

You may have travelled across the world and picked several souvenirs for yourself. But why gift someone else a souvenir of a place they’ve never been to?

Any gift, Christmas or otherwise, is about the recipient and not about you. So, the next time you try to gift a souvenir you bought from your last Europe trip, you might want to think twice.

3. Re-gift a present

All of us have thoughtlessly re-gifted presents lying at home to someone else. While we might think we are smart enough to get away with it, re-gifted presents aren’t too hard to catch.

You may want to make someone happy with a present, but regifting things only end up making them feel unappreciated and disappointed.

4. The Ugly Christmas sweater

Christmas sweaters are charming Christmas gifts, but they don’t really have much use apart from wearing them on Christmas day. You can give it as a part of a gift set with fuzzy socks, a bottle of red wine, and some exotic chocolates, but don’t just give an ugly Christmas sweater alone.

After all, the sweater will stay hidden in the farthest end of the person’s closet until next year.

5. Store-bought Christmas cake

Stores sell Christmas cakes so that those who don’t have time to bake can buy and enjoy it with their family. Gifting Christmas cakes to someone just goes to show that you couldn’t take enough effort to even think about a gift, so you went ahead and bought the most obvious gift.

6. Mugs and more mugs

Before gifting anyone mugs for Christmas, go to your kitchen and check the number of mugs people have gifted you until now. Chances are, you haven’t even used some of those mugs either because you already have too many mugs.

We all have our favorite mugs that we use to have our morning coffee. No matter how many more mugs we receive, our favorite mug will always be the same.

Instead, you can gift an entire teacup set, which is more elegant and useful as well.

7. Air freshener

It might surprise you, but yes, people often gift air fresheners on Christmas. More than a symbol of love, an air freshener as a gift can make people assume that you don’t think their home smells good.

Gift scented candles instead of Christmas-themed fragrances like roasted chestnut, Christmas tree and marshmallows, and nutmeg and eucalyptus. Scented candles have seasonal sentiments to them, and they make an ideal Christmas present when you don’t know what to gift.

8. Socks

All kids have received this at some Christmas or the other. And I remember a Christmas where my friend got 5 pairs of socks, all in the same color. We all need to keep our feet warm – just don’t gift anyone socks, they’ll buy their own.

9. Clothes

Gifting clothes, especially to someone whose size you don’t know too well can be dangerous and risky. Firstly, they might not like what you get them, and secondly, if you end up giving them a bigger size than what they wear, things can quickly get awkward and embarrassing. Instead, get a gift card from a retail store and let them buy whatever they want.

10. Kitchen Tools

Gifting someone a frying pan or any other kitchen tool is sure to make them disappointed. Think of it. Unless you’re gifting it to a budding chef – and then it better be a fancy gadget, it will sure make the receiver think of you every time they see it; but maybe not with fondness.

This Christmas, all you have to do is avoid these worst presents and spend a little more time coming up with the perfect Christmas gift.

And when all else fails -you will have the innumerable Gift Cards to choose from.

Merry Christmas – and here’s wishing that you get gifts of love, affection and warmth from your family & friends!!!
