1. MSC
The biggest beast award for the largest container ships goes to MSC Gülsün.
It is the first container ship capable of transporting 24 containers side by side across the breadth of its hull. The vessel, 400 metres long and with a beam of 62 metres, has a capacity of 23,756-TEU.
2. OOCL Hong Kong
And the second place goes to OOCL Hong Kong, which is an example of engineering genius manufactured by the firm Orient Overseas Container Line. This ship is class of a series of six G-class ships & the first ship ever to cross the 21,000 TEU mark.
With a length of 399.87 metres, breadth of 58.8 metres and a depth of 32.5 metres, it is the largest container ship ever built.
3. COSCO Shipping Universe
And the third place goes to COSCO (China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company) which under Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) has launched the largest containership ever built in China with the capacity of 20,000 teu.
With a length of 400 metres and a width of 58.6 metres, and is equipped for 1,000 teu of refrigerated capacity.
4. CMA CGM
With a capacity of 20,600 TEU — 123 kilometres of containers, Exupery is a strong addition to the 4th largest container shipping company's fleet Named after the French author and aviator Antoine De Saint Exupery with a capacity of 20,954 TEU which makes it the largest container ship to sail under the French flag.
With a length of 400 metres long and 59 metres wide and has a dead-weight of 202684 MT
5. Madrid Maersk
Madrid Maersk is not too far in the line and is the 5th largest container ship in the world.
Though the official capacity rating of the ship was set to 19,630 TEU, Maersk Line successfully modified the design resulting in the breaking of the 20,000 TEU mark.
With a length of 399 metres and a breadth of 58.8 metres it has a capacity of 20,568 TEU..
